Place De La Concorde

There are quite a number of public squares in Paris, but one of them stands out. Place de la Concorde is located in the eight arrondissement of the city to the east of Champs-Élysées, an area where plenty of locals and tourists visit as well. If you’re searching for what to do in Paris, this square is a must-visit. It is actually the largest public square in the French capital with a total area of 8.64 hectares or 21.3 acres. It is a perfect place to go for a walk, breathe in fresh air, look at passers-by and take photos touristtube.com.

Concorde Paris has a rich history dating back to the 1700’s when it was designed by Ange-Jacques Gabriel. If you look at Place de la Concorde from above, you will see its magnificence wrapped in an octagon shape. To its east is the Tuileries Garden, another famous tourist attraction. Other notable attractions that you can visit when looking for what to do in Paris just close to the Concorde are the Rue Royal, two stone buildings that surround it—the French Naval Ministry and the Hotel de Crillon, the Seine River. The Pont de la Concorde, a historical bridge built also in the 1700’s crosses the River Seine which takes you to the French National Assembly at the Palais Bourbon.

The Obelisk is the main highlight of the Place de la Concorde. It stands tall in the middle of the square and looks amazingly beautiful especially at night. It was a gift from the Egyptian government to France in 1829. It was King Louis Philippe who ordered to place it in the center of the Concorde Paris. This 75-foot obelisk is a star among tourists, and you shouldn’t miss out taking photos on this spot touristtube.com.

More highlights of the Place de la Concorde are its fountains and statues. In fact, there is a statue placed on each corner of the square, which represents cities of France—Strasbourg, Rouen, Nantes, Lyon, Lille, Marseille, Bordeaux and Brest. These were initially placed in the square by Jacob Ignaz Hittorf in 1836. It was Hittorf as well who designed the two fountains in Concorde Paris.

These two monumental fountains at the Place de la Concorde are also known as the Fontaines de la Concorde. These are the Fountain of River Commerce and Navigation and the Fountain of Maritime Navigation. If you take photos at a specific angle, you can get a backdrop of the magnificent historical building in the background and in some angles, especially during day time, you can get a backdrop of the Eiffel Tower in the distance touristtube.com.

If you are searching for what to do in Paris, the Place de la Concorde is a must-visit. Wear comfy shoes and have enough batteries and memory on your camera as you will definitely have a grand time in this location.
